Frequently Asked Questions
with Karen Dess

How do Karen’s readings work?
I start my readings with analysing your metasymbology to look at your life path and where you are at on your path at the moment.
Then I do a tarot reading using a metasymbology spread of 49 cards to give a general understanding of all areas of your life, and finally I answer all your specific questions using a process of concentrating on your questions while shuffling the cards, and the cards answering your questions will fly out of the pack.
I am clairaudient and clairsentient. Clairaudient, meaning “clear hearing”, is where I can hear suggestions inside my head which occur like they are my own thoughts. Clairsentience, meaning “clear feeling”, is where I feel the energetic vibrations of other people’s intent and this gives me information about them.
What I like most about offering readings is meeting all the new people and getting an insight into their lives and their personalities. People’s stories play out in front of me like characters in a book or a movie. Calculating their metasymbology gives me such a clear understanding of who they are, their weaknesses and their strengths.
I love unravelling their questions and dilemmas and revealing positive solutions and possibilities for them in accordance with their metasymbology type. I get so excited with them / for them about what the future can hold and I always find ways to frame my answers in the positive.
Often I get so wrapped up in their stories that when they run out of questions I will add a couple of my own, because I’m so eager to know how things will turn out for them and that they will be able to find the rewarding outcomes that they’re looking for.
How does reading Tarot work?
A deck of Tarot cards consists of 78 cards, each of which has a symbolic meaning and which references a particular perception of life or experience. When spread out in a sequence, where each position represents a particular aspect of life, the cards tell a story in the same way that a picture book can. Knowing the symbolic meanings and interpretations of the cards allows a reader to ‘get the picture’, and tapping into the client’s energy allows the reader to ‘hear the music’. Combined, this allows the reader to understand the characteristics and situation of a client and to give feedback on the situation relevant to the questions asked.
This works by tapping into a combination of the client’s personal energy and the atmospheric energy of the moment. We all have free will and choice at all times and nothing is cast in stone. However, it is possible to predict likely outcomes given the current course of events based on a combination of subconscious mind intent and the synchronicity of timing and coincidence.
Carl Jung suggested that events occur due to a combination of causality and synchronicity. In this way ‘meaningful coincidences’ combine with occurrences shaped by random chance to create subsequent events that appear to happen purely by chance but which carry some meaning for the person to whom they occur.
How do Metasymbology Life Path readings work
Well … it’s pretty complex. I read and interpret you path in combination with your energy and the information given to me about you by the tarot cards.
“Metasymbology” as the modern name for an ancient mystic wisdom. This wisdom was derived from the mysticism of the Kabbalah and the Tree of Life, which taught the lessons and meaning of humankind’s life on Earth as pathways back to God. The goal for all paths is for people to work their way back to God by learning the lessons of their path in order to become their true selves, and thus perfect that aspect of Godliness in themselves.
The knowledge of the Kabbalah and the Tree of Life was originally passed on orally through the generations, until the advent of using paper in the 13th century. It was then recorded on small sheets of paper like cards. For many reasons, the information was written on the paper using symbols to describe all the aspects of the life paths. The Julian calendar was also adopted in the 13th century, and the knowledge of the paths was eventually synchronized with the days of the calendar so that every person would know what their life path was for the day they were born.
Because the meanings of the paths were written in symbols, which was intended to keep it esoteric, it meant that it could also be forgotten or misunderstood. As a result, the cards went on to be used as playing cards for gambling in China in the 14th century, and as tarot cards for fortune telling in Italy in the 15th century.
Metasymbology reveals the story of your entire life from birth till death. Each of the 53 cards (52 playing cards plus the Joker) represents a day in the year. These cards combine to form charts which document the pattern of the universe and the immutable laws that govern it.
The paths are read from right to left (like Hebrew). Every life path is a story which has its own journey (like a plotline) and its own themes, characters and conflicts. How you live your story depends on how you work with the elements of the path.
Metasymbology can be used to give a unique understanding into an individual’s thought and behaviour patterns. It offers understanding into events and experiences that play out in life and can open the way for change to occur.
Each person’s birth date marks their entry into the grand pattern of the universe and outlines how they will be affected by the universal laws. Each individualised pattern is determined and conditioned by the numbers, elements and planets which surrounded us at our birth. This influences our behaviour patterns, our emotional patterns and the conditions and experiences we encounter in life.
Your birth path documents the secrets of your personality, your talents, what type of work will bring the most satisfaction, how you interact with others, who your most significant relationships will be with, what your biggest challenges are and how to get the most from your life. It’s like reading an encoded script of every aspect of your life.
All personal traits (the symbols) inherited in one’s Metasymbology have both good and bad implications and interpretations. How these manifest is up to the individual.
Sometimes “Metasymbology” is called “Destiny Cards” or the “Cards of Life”.
How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy activates your subconscious mind and unlocks the blocks within. It is the therapeutic technique to bring positive changes in behaviour, thought, attitude, and responses of the patients. It is a safe and natural way of improving your life.
Speaking directly to the subconscious mind is a supple and powerful tool, and creates the possibility for change by creating an opportunity for new neural pathways to be developed. Suggestion allows the subconscious mind to understand that new types of thought and behaviour are possible, and to help the client realise that they have options on how to feel and think where previously they felt completely option-less.
Hypnotherapy works to remove distress and thus create new subconscious thought and positive behaviour. By uncovering your negative subconscious thoughts, and then reframe them into the positive thoughts to help with solutions to your problem or habit.
How does Hypnotherapy with Life Path therapy work?
My Life Path therapy includes using hypnotherapy and ancient life path charts. The path work helps you understand more about your own nature. Like any system, the character traits and behaviour patterns that we all have contribute to our lives, but can also produce counter-productive side effects.
I would work with you by understanding your personality, your circumstances and what you’ve been through in your life, and how that may all have affected your character and your body. Then I create your personalized healing based on your individual story.
I work by clarifying the mind/ body connection around the issues, and then create different ways for the mind to think and the body to respond. Life Path therapy can explain how it is that your behaviour patterns operate and what other patterns are available to you. Including hypnosis activates subconscious mind healing to create better strategic behaviour with positive outcomes, both physically and emotionally.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnotherapy is a relaxed state of focused awareness. As you go into a trance you will feel your body relax and your mind let go of all tension and stress, but you will remain responsive and will be able to hear and react as you chose throughout the experience. As you begin to relax into a trance you will feel a sensation that is very much like the feeling of comfort you get right before you drift into sleep.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Hypnosis is a natural state of being and most people can be hypnotised. All that is required is the ability to follow voice instructions. This powerful yet gentle tool can be used to assist anyone aged 8 and upwards.
How deep into trance will I go?
You will naturally go to the level of trance that is optimal for you to achieve the results you want. There are three main depths of trance:
Light – body relaxed, where your hearing can expand to hear all the sounds around you;
Medium – body relaxed, where you listen only to the sound of my voice;
Deep – the most profound level of relaxation, where you become unaware of the sounds around you or on focusing on any one thought.
Is Hypnotherapy the same as stage hypnotism?
My goal as a fully qualified hypnotherapist is to facilitate change in you to help you achieve your goals. Stage hypnotists are performers and their only goal is to entertain their audience and with hypnotherapy both stage and therapeutic it is important to note that you will never do anything against your own will or morals.
What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Counselling?
NLP is a language-based counselling program designed to assist you in defining goals and reframing your thought processes, and is based on a study of how we think, how we speak and how we act. It explores the relationship between how we think (neuro), how we communicate both verbally and non-verbally (linguistic) and our patterns of behaviour and emotion (programmes).
Our subconscious mind is an incredibly powerful organ. At all times it knows much more than our conscious mind, including information that we have forgotten, how we really feel and what we really want.
If I were to ask you to choose between chocolate or vanilla, your conscious mind may dither over questions of quality, price, calorie intake or a hundred other factors before making a decision, but deep inside of you there is a voice clearly stating your choice. In these cases we often call this voice our ‘gut instinct’. Our subconscious mind is able to protect us from hurt, misfortune and loss by giving us the ‘sixth sense’ to know when someone is behind us. Our subconscious mind also rules our patterning and our habits.
Our manner, behaviour and speech can all form habitual patterns which stem from the influences which have taken hold in our subconscious minds.
